never lose your invaluable curiosity ...

“It is simply this: do not tire, never lose interest,
never grow indifferent—
lose your invaluable curiosity and you let yourself die.
It's as simple as that.”
Tove Jansson, Fair Play

This past summer I learned more about the amazing Tove Jansson because of a  fun instagram challenge I did last summer called #cupfull2022*.
Here is the illustration/drawing that I created inspired by Tove Jansson and the blurb that I shared about her ~

Cup full: Tove Jansson
Such a wonderful prompt!! I loved trying to recreate Jansson’s luscious creepiness & her wonderful line work 🖤

Tove Marika Jansson (9 August 1914 – 27 June 2001) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish author, novelist, painter, illustrator and comic strip author. Brought up by artistic parents, Jansson studied art from 1930 to 1938 in Stockholm, Helsinki and Paris. Her first solo art exhibition was in 1943. At the same time, she was writing short stories and articles for publication, as well as creating the graphics for book covers and other purposes. She continued to work as an artist and a writer for the rest of her life.
Jansson wrote the Moomin books for children, starting in 1945 with The Moomins and the Great Flood. #wikipedia

*this challenge was hosted by these lovely artists - if you have a moment, check out their instagram feeds.

March's calendar is celebrating Women's History month!

And the celebration of women will continue on my dailydress blog, where I will be posting quotes by women daily, and whenever possible a bit of a bio of that day's woman.

Some history behind Women's History Month:
Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”

Thank you and peace,
